BIO-GAS PLANT

Biogas Plant

PRODUCTION OF BIO-GAS:

DESCRIPTION:

1. The waste from the septic tank is sent to the main tank through the outlet pipe.

A. The diameter of the outlet pipe is 100 mm.

2. The dimensions of the main tank are 1.5m inner diameter and 2m height. This is a circular tank, with a thickness of 30cm. The bottom is of concrete and the walls of this tank is considerably thick and is built with bricks and cement.

A. The distance between the main tank and the next tank is 75cm and the diameter of the pipe connecting these two tanks is 0.5m.

3. GAS TANK : It has 1.45m diameter and 60m height and the center portion is alone rised to a height of 75cm and is made of stainless steel sheets. This must be a leakage proof tank.

A. A GI pipe of 30cm diameter is fitted to the gas tank at the centre.

B. PRESSURE GAUGE: This is used to measure the pressure inside the tank.

C. A flexible tube for the transportation of gas.

4. FILTER TANK: This is divided into 3 segments viz 4A,4B and 4C by means of concrete slabs of 0.5cm thickness. The dimensions of the filter tank is 1.5m x 1.5m.

5. COLLECTOR TANK: 1m x 1m tank.

A. ½ HP MINI PUMP for pumping water.

WORKING:

The setup is constructed as per the diagram. The main tank and the filter tank are filled with water. The already present waste gets solidified and it floats on the water surface. This gets degraded and BIOGAS is produced. This process takes a minimum of three days and the remaining wastes settles down at the bottom of the tank. These are later carried to the 4A segment through the 2A pipe and is circulated to 4B and 4C and finally reaches the collector tank.4A,4B and 4C will remain closed.

CHEMICAL REACTIONS:

Human excreta has the ability to produce a kind of gas called biogas. When the concentration of this gas increases, the gas rises up and this is indicated using a pressure gauge. This gas is sent to the stove by means of a 10cm diameter pipe.

GENERAL INFORMATIONS:

• Cow dung and vegetable wastes can also be added into this tank for better gas production.
• A minimum of 30 days should is given between the time of construction and usage.
• This tank has the capacity of giving a gas supply for three hours a day continuously.
• The water in the collector tank is rich in vitamins and came be used for gardening purposes.
• This collector water can also be given as a supply for gray water treatment.
